Minority Over Majority; The Corruption in Democracy
Democracy, according to the Oxford dictionary, is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
By the definition above, it can be put in simple terms that democracy is a majority rule. A case where the principal of “2 heads are better than 1" is fronted as a pivot for collective decision making. The reason why there is so much political chaos around the world today is because this principal (majority rule) carries in itself a great risk; majority tyranny. This is a case where those in the majority, having won the electorate, pursue exclusively their own interests at the expense of those in the minority.
It is due to the understanding of this background that the world instead experiences minority rule, where a handful of elites rule over the masses. It is also due to the understanding of this background that these ruling elites emphasize on maintaining majority seats in legislative assemblies which puts both majority rule and minority rule in their favor.
With this corruption well settled at its core, democracy remains a mythical tale of paradise, passed on from one generation unto the next.
